The market town of Ledenice lies about 12 km south-east of České Budějovice. In 2025, it had around 2,544 residents.

The first written reference to Ledenice, then called Ledenicz, dates from 1278. The town's landmark is the parish church of St Lawrence, established before 1300. A stone pillory from the second half of the 17th century stands near the primary school. Ledenice also includes the former farmyard of Mysletín, dating from 1719 and built to the plans of architect Pavel Ignác Bayer.
